Seth Godin explains why a simple re-brand or as he calls it “re-logo-ing” is not a fix for most organizational problems.
“If your brand isn't doing everything you hope, it might be because your organization isn't doing the work that the brand could or should or might promise it does.”
This is relevant internally as well. Some companies are forever shifting and moving internal pieces to cover up leaderahip failures.
You’ll see them as the busy hive who always pushes for more without clearly articulated goals and reasonings. They stay busy. Moving desks, changing brands, hiring/firing leadership, new products/services - but struggle to create sustainable growth, maintain clients in competitive environments and create conditions in which teams thrive - instead of survive.
Why?
Some questions you should pose:
Are you doing the work internally that you should be doing?
Are your leaders fully individuated, meaning are they self aware and doing the work on themselves to show up as good humans?
Are you keeping your promises to your stakeholders?
—— Do you define your employees, their families and communities as stakeholders?
If you have to think about any of these, don’t worry about rebranding, focus on becoming your best self as a leader and providing the tools and insights for others to do the same.
The money will come.
