Can you believe we get paid for this?

As I continue in the world of entertainment, I reflect on the cyclic themes of people development, servant leadership, risk/reward, and product/service innovation. These themes are not unique to this "business of show", but are amplified by one of its key differentiators from other more "conventional" work:

The feeling of high risk, high reward, and the intensity of the industry (for me) are derived from that little voice saying, "I can't believe we're getting paid to do this." This secret joy, the childlike wonder of making a living while dreaming out loud, elevates all endeavors to a new level of intensity.

Regardless of your medium, I assume you feel it too. Do you? When do you feel that feeling the most?

"Blockbusters" from Anita Elberse is a great case study on how to make entertainment ideas work. If you haven't read it, I highly recommend it. I'd love to hear your takeaways. Now she's offering a course that feels a bit out of reach for most of us at $12,000 US but maybe she'll read this and offer a Masterclass. Anita - I'd be happy to produce the content.

My takeaway from the book is that you build cache by investing in people and embracing the high risk/high reward scenarios the entertainment industry thrives on.

Wins become sweeter and losses hit harder when you realize that what you're doing with your time is a gift. Meaning is driving engine behind the best of the best things in life, don't you agree?
